I feel that a healthy diet is a critical aspect in achieving optimal health. Drinking raw almond milk is an easy way to improve your daily nutritional intake.
To make raw almond milk, all you need are a few ingredients: raw organic almonds, some vanilla extract or a vanilla bean and a few dates. Raw organic almonds can be quite tricky to find so ordering them from a reliable online source is your best bet. I order my raw almonds from the website Upaya Naturals which is a Canadian based company but I’m sure there are other sources depending on your location.
To make the almond milk all you need to do is soak around a cup of raw almonds overnight to rid them of the enzyme inhibitors. In the morning make sure you rinse the almonds well in a strainer. Put them in the blender with 3 equal parts of filtered water. Blend well until the mixture is smooth. Now, for the next step you’re going to need a nut milk bag or a fine strainer. I ordered 5 nut milk bags at once online through ebay (they can be used to sprout seeds as well). Strain the blended mixture through the nut milk bag into an air tight pitcher (preferably glass). The dry almond pulp that remains in the nut milk bag can be saved in the freezer for later use in another recipe such as raw cookies. For some extra flavour it is nice to add a few drops of vanilla extract (or the inside of one vanilla bean) along with 3 pitted dates to the blender and blend again.
Store the finished product in the fridge and, once chilled, enjoy the fresh almond milk. Drink it straight up as a delicious beverage on its own or use in place of cow’s milk in smoothies and cereal.
You can also use almond milk as the liquid when making dairy free ice cream.
Share in the comments section your favourite type of nut or seed milk.
To your health!
