Jake Ducey is a young man with a spark for life! At 19 years old he took a spiritual journey wandering the world resulting in his first book “Into The Wind.” He has a YouTube channel where he shares motivating and inspiring videos.
I had an opportunity to interview Jake Ducey. Here is what he had to share with me. I hope you find his responses as interesting as I do.
What got you into conscious living at such a young age?
I was lost in the belief that I was my body, confined in the mindset that says “I will be or I will have,” which gave my power up to “someday in the future.” Then I left a life of partying, and a college basketball scholarship when I was nineteen to wander the world without a map; proving that anything is possible when we follow our hearts. I did this because Wayne Dyer said: “We are all God, and when we use the affirmation ‘I Am’ followed by our dream, then we connect to it in present time and it becomes a reality.”
I wasn’t sure whether he was blowing a bit of smoke, or if it was true. As a result, I decided that I’d test it, and either end up right back where I was, which was relatively confused, or I’d live my wildest dreams if he was telling the truth.
Thus, I quit school and basketball, packed a backpack and headed around the world without a map. About two years later, at twenty-one-years-old, I am sure it works and I am now releasing my first book in April and getting ready for an 8-month book tour around North America.
Explain a healthy habit you wouldn’t go a day without doing?
Smiling because it’s the surest way to attract joy into our life. We don’t need a reason to do it and we have no reason not to.
Who are some of your mentors/role models?
Laird Hamilton– because he is completely sober of all substances, maintains a healthy body, and a highly functional family of four!
Wayne Dyer– because he is not scared to say that we are all God.
When you were wandering the world writing your book what was the most life changing place you visited and why?
The most life changing was Indonesia because I entered the country having lost all my bank cards in Australia, relying on complete faith. I had almost no money and a family in the concrete shacks took me in and provided for me by getting me shelter, food, and a phone to call America. When I got a wire transfer, they wouldn’t accept the money and told me, “the purpose of life is giving without expecting return.”
Can you share an interesting fact about yourself that most people would find surprising?
I didn’t pass my junior English class in high school and never studied writing. I know am one of the youngest published inspirational authors ever and have the top literary agent in the world! I am proud to say that I learned to write by retyping my favorite books over and over and over for a year before I left to travel.
What is Jake Ducey up to over the next year?
Jake Ducey’s book “Into the Wind; My Six-Month Journey Wandering the World for Life’s Purpose,” released April 11th. I will be embarking on a book tour across North America until the end of 2013!
To connect with Jake check out his website and YouTube channel where he shares all kinds of life changing information. Be sure to pick up a copy of his new book when it’s released next month.
