I personally refuse to eat food that has been microwaved.
If I’m at a restaurant and I hear that famous “beep” coming from the kitchen I’ll ask the waiter if anything in the dish I intend to order is headed for the microwave. If so, I’ll order something else or have that part of the dish sent out cold – yeah I’m that guy π
I’m sure as further research is done on the effects of microwaving food, more and more people will start thinking twice before nuking their next meal.
Microwaves cook/heat by passing electromagnetic waves through food causing the water molecules in it to vibrate at a high frequency. This produces steam that heats your dish.
The hidden dangers of microwaving your food include:
- Microwaved broccoli has been shown to lose 97 percent of its antioxidants – compared to an 11 percent antioxidant loss when broccoli is steamed.
- Using a microwave to heat up foods in plastics and paper can leach carcinogens into your food.
- Microwaves heat foods unevenly, this can lead to children burning their mouths on a hot spot within their meal. This is also an issue for mothers using the microwave to heat up their children’s bottles.
- Breast milk that has been microwaved has a decreased antibody count. Antibodies help protect babies from infections.
- Microwaved foods have a reduced level of B12.
Ways to get around using a microwave:
- Prepare meals ahead of time. This way you don’t have to scramble to quickly whip up a meal after a long day at work.
- Incorporate more raw foods into your diet – these foods are minimally processed and do wonders to improve your health!
- Take the extra time and warm foods up on the stove or in the oven. Counter top ovens are great for heating up small meals quickly.
- If you are bringing a lunch to work, simply eat it cold – salads, fruit and cut up veggies don’t need to be heated.
- Start incorporating more smoothies and raw soups into your routine. These foods are ultra convenient and they pack a nutritional punch.
Besides the health benefits you will experience by ditching your microwave you will also free up a bunch of extra space in your kitchen. I personally use this new area for ripening an abundance of bananas!
Purchasing and preparing organic foods is costly and time consuming – don’t put it all to waste by microwaving and damaging your final product.
Don’t sacrifice your health for the convenience of a microwave. Take the extra time and heat your foods up properly.
To your health!

I am so glad I found this. I seem to be the black sheep in my family when it comes to health and nurtrition and I don’t know why I was put here amongst a family that believes I am crazy. I cannot stand the microwave and will not allow my children to use it, and when my children go to their grandmothers I have to not only take our food but ask that she not microwave it. My poor Mother wonders where I came from I’m sure. I also do not believe in medicine as a means to a healthy lifestyle. FOOD…FOOD…FOOD is always your best source of “medicine” look forward to reading much more. I think I need to change the circles I travel in so life is not quite so lonely in this battle against processed, pesticide laden world we live in. Oh…and I might add, wish I could claim I am as healthy as I might sound…I am battling Adrenal Fatigue. Thank you for the great read.

Thank you for the great comment Shelly!
Family not being on the same page when it comes to healthy living can be really tough! Keep doing what you believe in and set a good example – hopefully in time they will come around π
Good luck getting over your adrenal fatigue naturally!
